Frontier Communications Corporation's shares closed down 2.14% and came seventeen cents shy of hitting the stock's 52 week low of $1.18 during intra-day trading. Traders were disappointed in the setback that the company experienced when Moody's Investors Service assigned rating of B1 to the new term loan issued as compared to the company's corporate family rating of B2. Moody's maintained the company's default rating (PDR) at B2-PD. The leading regional telecommunication company in the U.S. reported that as of Mar 31, 2017, the number of residential customers decreased 3.2% sequentially to 4,736,000. According to Moody's rationale, "Frontier's B2 CFR reflects its large scale of operations, its predictable cash flows and extensive network assets. Additionally, the rating is supported by the company's improved ability to generate cash following the reduction of its dividend payments. These factors are offset by Frontier's declining revenues, EBITDA and margins which result from secular decline and competitive pressure. These issues are exacerbated by poor execution of the integration of the CTF assets. Additionally, the ratings are constrained by the risk that the company may not have the discipline to continue to adequately invest in network modernization."
