U.S. stocks halted their record-setting rally for a second day amid disappointing earnings from General Electric Co. and drama at the White House.

The S&P 500 slipped less than 0.1 percent to 2,472.5 at 4 p.m. in New York, after the benchmark gauge ended Thursday within one point of its record close. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.2 percent to 21,580.07 Friday, with GE falling the most.
