The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,382.19 for a loss of 40.56 points or 0.63%. The VIX Volatility Index was higher for the day at 10.01 for a gain of 0.41 points or 4.27%.

Tech stocks kept valuations mostly lower on Thursday. Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- Mortgage rates were lower for the week. The Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey reported the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage average at 3.92%, decreasing from 3.96%, and the 15-year fixed-rate mortgage average was 3.20%, decreasing from 3.23%.
- Durable goods orders increased 6.5% for the month.
- International trade in goods reported a deficit of $63.9 billion.
- Jobless claims increased by 10,000 to 244,000.
