300 Taco Bell Locations to Add Alcohol, Remove Drive-Thrus

Taco Bell — owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE:YUM) — announced that it would be adding alcohol to 300 locations.

Taco BellIf you’ve ever driven by Taco Bell and wished you could booze up along with your food, the company’s got you covered now. However, you won’t be able to get your food or alcohol through the drive-thru window.

Taco Bell will offer alcohol in 300 Cantina locations, which are sit-in restaurants that have no drive-thru options in order to discourage drinking and driving. Beer, wine and sangria are among the drinks you’ll be able to choose from.

‘The majority of the new ‘urban in-line’ locations will serve beer, wine, sangria, and Twisted Freezes, aka slushies with tequila, rum, or vodka,’ according to Food & Wine.

The interior of these Taco Bells will look completely different as they’ll look more like a bar and less like a fast food chain. Everything from bar stools to beer on tap will be available at these locations.

Many fast food companies have been looking for ways to bring in health-conscious Millennials who yearn for a more fast-casual environment that appeals tot heir urban sensibilities.

Taco Bell is appeasing this audience with its new Cantina locations, offering booze along with the company’s traditional selection of tacos, burritos, quesadillas and nachos.

These Cantinas will be unveiled in areas where Millennials make up a large portion of the population.

YUM stock gained 0.6% Wednesday.
