October is Non-GMO Month - Industry Expert David Carter Available for Comment

Throughout the month of October, consumers will see thousands of their favorite food products featuring the Non-GMO Project Verified label at over 13,000 stores nationwide, and industry expert David Carter is available to explain why so many leading brands and retailers support it.

Now that Congress has passed the GMO labeling bill, demand for non-GMO foods and beverages is gathering momentum, as consumers want to know what’s in the food they eat and feed their families. For the eighth consecutive year, the nonprofit educational group Non-GMO Project has dubbed October “Non-GMO month.”

Non-GMO Project

Annual sales of Non-GMO Certified products increased from $349 million in 2010 to more than $19 billion as of March 2016 (www.packagedfacts.com), and demand is expected to grow 12% through 2018. That is why manufacturers like General Mills, Dannon, Del Monte, and retailers like Whole Foods, Publix and Target now require products they shelve to carry the Non-GMO Project Verification icon. In fact, Whole Foods Market has made a commitment to require all of its suppliers of food to label products that contain genetically modified (GMO) risk ingredients before the end of 2018.

David Carter is a Non-GMO expert and the CEO of FoodChain ID, the nation’s leading company in Non-GMO verification and global GMO regulatory requirements. As the longest-serving technical administrator for the Non-GMO Project’s Product Verification Program, FoodChain ID has verified more than 50,000 products for over 2,500 clients in over 100 countries.
