Daily Stock Analysis: ViacomCBS

The portfolio of stocks I started building on September 8, at a one stock per week pace for the next year, is named Vista. I will select the twenty-first stock for Vista this weekend. Vista is the sixth portfolio I've built (at a one dividend dog per-week pace) since 2014. Six portfolios = VI for Vista!

Vista is planned to Look Ahead for Outstanding, Proven, Dividend Winners. (Like Aristocrats)

Today we look at a large-cap entertainment company named ViacomCBS Inc. Its trading ticker symbol is VIAC.  This is my first report on ViacomCBS Inc for any portfolios.

ViacomCBS is the recombination of CBS and Viacom that has created a media conglomerate operating around the world.

CBS' television assets include the CBS television network, 28 local TV stations, and 50% of CW, a joint venture between CBS and Time Warner. The company also owns Showtime and Simon & Schuster.

Viacom owns several leading cable network properties, including Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, Comedy Central, VH1, CMT, and Paramount. Viacom has also built several online properties on the strength of these brands.

Viacom's Paramount Pictures produces original motion pictures and owns a library of 2,500 films, including the Mission: Impossible and Transformers series.

The company was formerly known as CBS Corporation and changed its name to ViacomCBS Inc in December 2019.

ViacomCBS Inc. was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in New York, New York.

I use three key data points to gauge dividend equities or funds like ViacomCBS Inc:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Those three basic keys best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

VIAC Price

ViacomCBS's price per share closed at $51.94 yesterday. A year ago its price was $35.13. Price increased $16.81 or about 48% last year.

If ViacomCBS's stock trades in the range of $15 to $65 this next year, its recent $51.94 price might rise by $3.06 to reach $55.00 by January 27, 2022. That's in line with its ten-year average annual increase.

VIAC Dividends

ViacomCBS's most recently declared quarterly dividend was $0.24 paid on January 4th. Dividends are estimated to total $0.96 per share annually and yield 1.85% at yesterday's $51.94 closing price.

VIAC Gains?

Adding the $0.96 annual ViacomCBS Inc anticipated dividend to my $3.06 optimistic price upside shows a $4.02 potential gross gain, per share, to be reduced by any costs to trade the shares.

Put little under $1,000.00 today in ViacomCBS Inc at $51.94 per share and we'd buy 19 shares of VIAC stock.

A $10 broker fee (if charged) paid half at purchase and half at sale might cost us about $0.53 per share.

Subtract that maybe $0.53 brokerage cost from my estimated  $4.02 gross gain per share results in a net gain of $3.49 X 19 shares = $66.31 for a 6.3% net gain on a $986.86 investment.

ViacomCBS Inc shows a possible 6.3% net gain including a 1.85% dividend yield. It could be more, it could be less.

All of the estimates above are speculation based on the past history of ViacomCBS Inc. Only time and money invested in this stock will determine its worth.
