A Day Of Huge Market Moves

It was a day of huge market moves and several reporting companies, and my internet crashed, which is why this blog is late. Trudeau won but did not get a parliamentary majority.

Ormat Technologies (NYSE:ORA) earned $28.62 mn, a 42.63% increase from the preceding quarter. Its sales decreased to $146.90 million, an 11.69% change since Q1. In Q1, Ormat Technologies earned $49.89 million, and total sales reached $166.35 million. Benzinga reported that ORA is looking good. having posted an ROIC of 0.88%. For Ormat Technologies, the positive return on an invested capital ratio of 0.88% suggests that management is allocating their capital effectively. Effective capital allocation is a positive indicator that a company will achieve more durable success and favorable long-term returns.

Part of our Algonquin group holdings, Atlantica Yield, a UK fund investing in dollars, reported a fall on 1 cent in Q2 from the prior Q2, 11 cents vs 12. Keybank reported that this was ok.

Royal Dutch Shell, whose B shares we own, sold its Permian basin gas acreage to Conoco Phillips. Royal Bank of Canada cheered the move. RDS-B gained green credentials and also rose 4.13%.

E.on stock rose 1.35% on Britain's shortage of energy, which means it will buy from the German group.

The Dakota Indians are trying to halt the Energy Fuels (UUUU) Dakota pipeline claiming it leaks. UUUU appealed to Uncle to halt this and its share rose 6.79%. I guess the Indians are not being taken seriously.

Although it did no deals, BP PLC (BP) rose in the wake of Shell's, by 5.2%.

Cenovus is redeeming its notes which come due in 2022 now and its share gained 1.9% on the news. There are two notes, 3.95% of April 15 and 3% of August 15. It appears that CVE is also having to pay a premium for the early redemption.

Takeda (TAK) gained 0.76% after it agreed to buy Mirum's liver diseases drug maralinibat.

However rival Eisai (ESALY)  fell on concern over Adulhelm, and its other drug for Alzheimer's, lecunemab.

Eli Lilly (LLY) and AbCellera (ABCL) are joining forces to create a vaccine to treat COVID-19. We own both drug stocks.

Grifols (GRFS) of Spain rose fractionally after its estimated consensus earnings in the current quarter in euros rose by 2 euro cents. It is Spanish and specializes in blood plasma.

Novartis (NVS) bought Arctos eye meds line including help for AMD, the cause of eye problems in seniors. Its 5-year bond was bought by Cathie Woods who says it yields 6.93%.

The Financial Times reported that Gol, the Brazil airline, will launch electric air taxis as cheap as Uber cabs in its homeland.

There is a serious threat to Walgreen's Boots, the trans-Atlantic drugstore group because in my neighborhood discount drugstores are opening right next door to their pharmacies and offering lower prices.

Naspers (NPSNY) gained 2.9% in the wake of Tencent's recovery.

The Swiss financial sector is barely regulated as can be seen by how Credit Suisse is gauging its investor customers over the Archegos crash.

Tata Motors (TTM) in India is said to be preparing to raise its electric vehicle prices next month. The leak will make people buy sooner.

Weyerhaeuser (WY) was cut to hold by CFRA analysts. WY is a lumber producer.

My largest US holding Thermo Electron (TMO) continues to advance more than my ADRs, causing embarrassment.
