A SCOTTISH distribution business has secured a major partnership with retail giant John Lewis.

The move means M&H Carriers can expand its warehousing capacity and cater for an increase in demand for deliveries in the north east of Scotland.

The firm, which employs 290 and has an annual turnover of £20 million, reached the deal with the retailer to make use of its Aberdeen warehouse, allowing the logistics firm to expand its operations in the region.

The John Lewis team will handle all warehousing, picking and loading of M&H Carriers’ home deliveries in the north east under the arrangement.

It comes as M&H Carriers has hired three new two-man crews to across the country and is actively recruiting for delivery drivers at all its depots, with plans for all locations to have two-man teams operating by the end of the year.

Two-man deliveries involve the delivery of large and bulky items, including furniture and household appliances. M&H Carriers’ crews operate on behalf of retailers ranging from independent local outfits to larger businesses like B&Q, and Marks & Spencer as well as John Lewis.

Mike Buchan, M&H Carriers’ home delivery manager, said demand for two-man deliveries has “gone through the roof over the last few months as shopping habits continue to change and more people are ordering large and bulky items online”.

He said: “By moving into these new premises, we are not only able to provide a greater delivery service to customers across the north of Scotland – but we have also been able to help provide work and employment for all those who worked in the warehouse while John Lewis’ Aberdeen store was open.

“We’ve had a long relationship with John Lewis, having carried out their local deliveries for a number of years. This is the first time they have partnered with an external business in this way, so we are delighted to have this opportunity to expand our operations and enhance our service offering.”
