- If it's November, it must be time for a first-person shooter launch: Today's the debut for Battlefield 2042, the latest edition of Electronic Arts' (NASDAQ:EA) wartime franchise.
- Today's a delayed launch date; the game was originally set to come out Oct. 22, but in mid-September, EA pushed the date later, saying development during a global pandemic created "unforeseen challenges."
- Back then the company reiterated its bookings guidance for fiscal 2022, however.
- This time the game is set in the near future where world powers of the U.S. and Russia are in conflict and dealing with refugees from a number of collapsed nations.
- It's featuring three distinct multiplayer modes: All-Out Warfare (with large maps and battles of up to 128 players); Battlefield Portal (community-driven, allowing players to control rules of war and share creations); and Hazard Zone (an extraction-based four-player squad mode).
- The game is available for $59.99 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and for $69.99 on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
- Also today, Electronic Arts has named Rachel Gonzalez to its board of directors. She's general counsel for Starbucks, and had previously served in leadership for Sabre, Dean Foods and Affiliated Computer Service.
