Shopify (NYSE:SHOP) continues to post record holiday numbers as merchant sales from Black Friday through Cyber Monday reached $6.3B globally, a 23% increase over the period in 2020 and more than double merchant sales during the holiday weekend in 2019. The results come even as Black Friday sales declined for the first time to $8.9B, according to Adobe Analytics.
47M consumers purchased goods on Shopify during the weekend, spending $100.70 per order on average. Consumers began holiday shopping earlier as daily total sales at Shopify began increasing 28 days before Cyber Monday versus 19 days in 2020.
For the second year in a row, Shopify purchased enough carbon removal to completely eliminate the impact of carbon emissions from shipping on every single order on its platform over the shopping weekend.
