Nintendo (OTCPK:NTDOY) continues to have the best selling game consoles, with the Switch family selling just over 1.1 million consoles in November, NPD Group said on Monday.
In total, Nintendo (OTCPK:NTDOY) sold more than 1.13 million units last month, aided in part by strong software sales such as Nintendo's "Metroid: Dread," which is in its second month of release.
Nintendo's (OTCPK:NTDOY) Switch consoles have been the best-selling consoles for the past 35 of 36 months and November continued to see strength, especially in the week of Black Friday and Thanksgiving, as more than 550,000 units were sold.
“With a wide-ranging library of games and three options to choose from between Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, the Nintendo Switch family of systems offers something for everyone this holiday season,” said Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser in a statement.
Nintendo (OTCPK:NTDOY) shares were off slightly more than 1% to $58.70, and have fallen more than 25% year-to-date.
NPD noted that $883 million worth consoles were sold in November, down 38% from the year-ago period, as Sony's (NYSE:SONY) PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox Series X and Series S continued to be in short supply.
Total video game spending during November fell 10% year-over-year to $6.3 billion. However, consumers have spent $52.9 billion on video game hardware, content and accessories year-to-date, up 9% compared to the year-ago period.
Video game sales rose for a sixth straight month in October, aided by a big jump in hardware and a double-digit increase in content revenue, as Nintendo (OTCPK:NTDOY) continued its strength in both unit and dollar terms, aided by the upgraded Nintendo Switch OLED Model.
