According to Variety, Amazon Studios, a subsidiary of the tech giant Amazon, has commissioned a TV series about the scandalous collapse of the FTX exchange.
The new TV show will be produced by AGBO, an independent film and television production company. Anthony Russo and Joseph Russo, American directors and producers known as the Russo brothers, lead the studio.
The production of the show is set to begin in early 2023. It will consist of eight episodes. The pilot will be written and produced by David Weil, an American writer, producer, and director. Weil, best known for his work on the Amazon Prime Video television show Hunters, will also serve as the show’s executive producer. The show will also be directed by Angela Russo-Otstot (“Cherry,” “Relic”) and Mike Larocca (“The Gray Man”).
Head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke claims that there are no better collaborators to bring the FTX story to Amazon Prime Video, an on-demand streaming and rental service. FTX, which was established in 2019, rose quickly to become one of the industry’s major players. Sam Bankman-Fried, the company’s founder, had a staggering $26 billion in assets at one point. The crypto empire, however, fell apart in less than a week. Bankman-Fried’s wealth has been wiped out, while FTX Group has filed for bankruptcy.
The story of FTX’s collapse has frequently been contrasted with the biotech fraud Theranos. Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes is portrayed by actress Amanda Seyfried in the “The Dropout” docuseries, which debuted earlier this year on Amazon’s subscription streaming service.
